September 2011 Minutes

The meeting was called to order by President, Richard Thompson, at 10:10 on Saturday, September 17, 2011, at the Fishbowl Bar, Danbury, WI.  There were 19 members and one guest in attendance.

Minutes of the last meeting, July 30, 2011 were read by Secretary, Mary Anne Thompson,  Motion was made by Norman Both, seconded by Cheryl Gray to approve the minutes as read.

Financial Report  was given by Cheryl Gray, TreasurerMotion to approve the financial report as read was made by Wayne Johnson, seconded by Ron Schneider.

President Thompson introduced our guest, Susan Ingles, Forest Recreational Coordinator with the Burnett County Forestry Department.  Susan thanked the club members for all their hard work cleaning up the trails after the July 1 storm.  She said it was amazing that they were able to get the trails opened so soon.

Rick reported that Ron, Mary Anne and he attended the annual Regional WATVA meeting last month in Iron River.  He said it was very informative and some of the topics discussed were riding in National Forests, the importance of signage on the trails, the possibility of an increase in funding for trail work and the  pilot UTV program.  Ron added that the possibility of riding from a residence to a trail was also discussed and he thought the displays from the various clubs including their maps were a good idea.

As we previously discussed, the Executive Board is working on getting land and putting up a storage building next spring.  We have two sites available and we are looking at and getting bids for a 36 x 56 pole shed with two 12’ doors and one service door.  We are hoping that we can get some help from  club members to cut trees to start with and to help with whatever additional work need to be done.

Cheryl Gray gave a report on the meat raffles that were held so far this year.  We have earned a total of $1,917.98.  We have had eight meat raffles so far and have three scheduled for September 24 at Oakridge and September 30 at Lumberjack and October 8 at Gliders.

Ron Gray explained the procedure he will be using to prepare the trail map for next year.  He plans to make telephone calls and use the mails to get the initial work completed.  We will be ordering more maps this year and depending on the cost of printing, the fee for an ad may or may not remain the same.  The question was asked if we could possibly put the “routes” on the ATV map.  It was explained that the map is intended as a summer use ATV trail map and Susan said the county does not want routes on the map because the routes can be and are sometimes changed throughout the year.

We had a short discussion about the possibility of opening County Road H in Webb Lake as an ATV route.  It was again explained that it is up to the town boards to request opening of routes in their township and someone said that the Webb Lake Town Board will be again putting in a request to the County Board.

We discussed out agenda for next year.  A membership drive was discussed with the possibility of newspaper ads and persons sitting on the trails with membership information on the holiday weekends.  Also discussed was a fund raiser in the spring.  Cheryl Gray and Shelley Ross agreed to work on the idea of a poker run/pig roast on Memorial Day weekend with information handed out at the St. Patrick’s Day parade.  Any fund raisers should be well published and put in the WATVA magazine.  It was also discussed that we should get the names of ATV clubs in MN and WI and send our information to them.  Bruce Peyton said he would get that information.

Mary Anne Thompson won the drawing.

Motion to adjourn was made by Cheryl Gray seconded by Norman Both.  Meeting adjourned at 12:15 p.m.  The club picnic followed with lots of good food prepared by Fishbowl and door prize drawings.

                                        Respectfullly submitted,

                                        Mary Anne Thompson, Secretary
