Carl reported that there has been no further work done on the revision of the bylaws and also we have heard nothing more about the five acres that could go up for sale across from the Webb Lake Town Hall. A further point of information - the ATV trails are now closed and the DNR has approved, at least for a couple of years, the riding of UTV’s on the trails. The fee will be the same as an ATV and registration of these machines cannot be done online, they must be registered either at a DNR facility or by mail.
The Turf and Tundra ATV Club has been named along with five other people/organizations in the Humphrey lawsuit. This as a result of an accident in August 2008 on a fire lane in Webb Lake. Webb Lake Township has been dismissed from the case and a Washburn County judge will be reviewing and ruling on this matter.
The members thought that Carl should contact the insurance company and review the policy in effect now and maybe we would need to make some changes to the present policy or possibly get something new and different. Chuck Geyer made a motion to have Carl get this information for us and bring it back to the next meeting, seconded by Lynn Jawish.
The question was raised if we should move forward with preparing and printing an ATV trail map this year. After a short discussion about who would be helping with the map and the cost of printing the map, Chuck Geyer moved that we keep working on it. Ron and Cheryl Gray, and Chad and Brenda Alden volunteered to contact the various agencies regarding the ads.
County Forestry is preparing new rules for the color coding of map which should make them easier to read. The question came up regarding the price of signs and placing signs. Last year several businesses and organizations volunteered to have fund raisers and donate toward the cost of signs to their businesses. This has not occurred to date. Members wondered if we should possibly have a designated “sign fund” toward which businesses and organizations can contribute.
The County has passed an ordinance proposing the possibility of opening some county roads for ATV’s use. Not all roads will be opened, only those requested by a township or the Turf and Tundra ATV Club will be considered for approval. Each request must be accompanied with a reason such as to get to a specific business or trail. Richard Costerisan gave an extensive report on his research in this matter. Carl also had attended an Infrastructure Meeting last week at which the signing of county roads was discussed. The county proposal is in the process of being revised and will come before the committee again next month, the third Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. A lengthy discussion followed with everyone thinking this would be a good thing for the trails and mostly the business people involved.
The date of the next meeting was set for 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 24 at Hap’s Landing.
Winner of the cash drawing was Harold Beedy.
Motion was made by Duane Wiehle seconded by Harold Beedy to adjourn the meeting. Meeting adjourned at 10:10 a.m.
Respectfullly submitted,
Mary Anne Thompson, Secretary
