July 2011 Minutes
The meeting was called to order by President, Richard Thompson, at 10:10 on Saturday, July 30, 2011 at Rosenthal‘s Resort, Webb Lake, WI. There were 18 members in attendance.
Minutes of the last meeting, June 25, 201l were read by Secretary, Mary Anne Thompson, Motion was made by Cheryl Gray, seconded by Bruce Peyton to approve the minutes as read.
Financial Report was read by Cheryl Gray, Treasurer. Motion to approve the financial report as read was made by Wayne Johnson, seconded by John Kielkucki.
The club had a moment of silence for Harold Beedy a long time member and hard worker and groomer for the club who passed on July 14.
As everyone knows, our area had a lot of storm damage occur on July 1 and the trails were all closed because there were a lot of downed trees and destruction. A small number of members have been working on the cleanup of the trails ever since then and after many hours of hard work, all of the trails are now open with the exception of a part of Trail 925 west of the Hillside Bar.* It will be some time before that trail is opened. Dept of Forestry is working on it. Some of the Cozy Corner club members assisted us in the cleanup in that area. We were informed last week that Burnett Forestry received grants from the State Snowmobile Association and WATVA for emergency storm cleanup. Reimbursement for storm work will come from that grant and not from our maintenance contract.
The trails are looking really good but we need some workers to go out and clean the brush around signs. We will also be looking into renting the brusher from Bruce’s and the Snowmobile Association has agreed to pay half of the rental fee.
The club has had several meat raffles since the last meeting and the profits from the meat raffles will be the start of our building fund. We have a meat raffle scheduled for today at the Oakridge Inn at 4:30 p.m. and hope everyone will make an effort to attend and support the club. We also need people to volunteer to work meat raffles in the future. Thanks to Deanna Thompson, Joan Williamson, Cheryl Gray and Mary Anne Thompson for all their work so far this year at the raffles.
We are investigating two sites that may be appropriate for an eventual building for the club. As soon as we make a decision, we will seek the advise of an attorney and the general membership will be informed of our intentions. It has been a difficult year so far and hopefully with the help of all our members, by next spring everything will be running smoothly.
Bruce Peyton volunteered to be Harvey’s backup trail groomer. Thanks Bruce.
Ron Schneider won the drawing.
Motion to adjourn was made by Wayne Johnson, seconded by Bruce Peyton. Meeting adjourned at 10:50 a.m.
The next meeting will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 30, 2011, at Rosenthal’s Resort. Don’t forget that they serve breakfast on the weekends.
